Welcome to Tough Guy II, a companion blog to Tough Guy Goods & Services. My name is Karl Heitmueller, Jr., I'll be your host. While the original Tough Guy (the name is ironic and originated from a line in Grosse Pointe Blank, a movie I love dearly) is a portfolio of my illustration, comics, and some design, this blog will be a deeper dive into design and logo work, including my process on many projects, something not shown at all on TGGS.
Much of the work is here is hand-lettering, old school ink on paper, later cleaned up digitally. But there's also logo work done using fonts, manipulated in Illustrator and Photoshop. Some pieces combine hand-drawn work with computer work, creating (I hope) a unique esthetic. (Note: for more of my lettering, follow me on Instagram at Kalligrafonts, not my first choice of name, but Kalligraphy was already taken.)
This site will also spotlight design work done both for clients and myself. Meaning that in addition to tee-shirts, album covers, ads, and posters I've created for others, you'll also be seeing a bunch of projects done just for myself. Over the years, I've made hundreds of new covers for home-burned compilation CDs, as well as REdoing covers for some CDs and almost every one of my DVDs that I found either too ugly, bulky, or lacking in important information. Yeah, I'm one of those.
This site is designed to be a portfolio, so HIRE ME! Contact information is posted to the right. I'll be happy to discuss any project for which you think my distinctive style might work. And maybe even some where it doesn't! Thanks for your time.
