Tough Guy Christmas CDs
Maxwell's Miscellanea
For 15 years, I was the house artist at Maxwell's bar and nightclub in Hoboken, NJ, from 1998 until it closed in 2013. Below are just a handful of examples of some of the work that I did, including logo design, menu design, monthly band schedules, advertisements, and flyers.
Yo La Tengo 8 Nights of Hanukkah Poster
This 2007 poster for Yo La Tengo's annual Eight Nights of Hanukkah event at Maxwell's in Hoboken was sold at the shows as a limited edition. It was (obviously, if you know it) inspired by the old Saturday Night Live faux-commercial for "Jewess Jeans" featuring Gilda Radner.
MTV.com Illustrations
Below are a handful of illustrations I did for mtv.com in the mid-2000s, most of them for a column entitled, "Music Geek," for which I also wrote a few installments.
John Doe, Forever Hasn't Happened Yet Promo Poster
John Doe asked me to do the promo poster for his 2005 album, Forever Hasn't Happened Yet on Yep Rock Records. He wanted a hand-drawn version of the photo used on the album cover, so everything including the lettering was redrawn.
Rye Coalition Poster
Poster done for a Rye Coalition show at Maxwell's in 2004, utilizing artwork from an issue of Hanna-Barbera Super TV Heroes.
John Doe / Grant-Lee Phillips Poster
Poster for John Doe and Grant-Lee Phillips at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ in 2004. Copies of this poster were sold at the show.
A Charlie Brown Christmas DVD Redux
This mocked-up DVD cover was done to accompany a piece I wrote in 2004 lamenting the lack of a decent home video version of A Charlie Brown Christmas (something which STILL HASN'T HAPPENED SIXTEEN YEARS LATER!).
Tough Guy Logos and Website Version 1
Pictured below are numerous logo designs over the years and website art for early versions of Tough Guy Goods & Services. The characters in the first homepage illo (when I started a graphics products company that, um, did not last long) are S'tan and Social Grace, characters from a comic strip I did for two different publications in Lancaster and New York City.
Todd's 40th Birthday Bash
Poster done for my old boss, Todd-O-Phonic Todd Abramson's birthday party at Maxwell's in Hoboken NJ. Todd loved White Castle. Brrrrr.
