New Tough Guy Stickers

Two new movie quote stickers are available at the Etsy shop now! Based on quotes from THE EXORCIST and BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, they're the latest in my line of pop-culture-inspired stickers. I've also included the original, hand-drawn art, in which you'll see that I messed up the VALLEY line at first! For some reason, I had it in my head that Z-Man said, "Baby" after "Happening," but I was luckily corrected before I finished the sticker! The funny thing is, I also initially thought that the line from THE EXORCIST was "What a lovely day for an exorcism," but at least I double-checked on that one before I did the art.

Kalligrafonts Stickers

In 2019, I rebranded my hand-lettering work under the name Kalligrafonts on Instagram. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not nuts about the name. My family nickname is "Kalli" (pronounced, "Cully," at least in my case), so I wanted to use "Kalligraphy," but that was taken. As were the next five variations I thought of. So, Kalligrafonts it is. As noted to the right, the Instagram page is here. Below is a selection of self-promoting stickers I had printed up, all of which are available on my Etsy page (or, if you buy a piece of original art over there, I throw a couple of these in for free!).

FOLLOW UP:
I guess I REALLY didn't like the name, because later in 2020, I ditched it and re-rebranded the Instagram page to good ol' reliable Tough Guy Goods.

DVD / Blu-ray Cover Redux 4: Superhero Movies

DVD / Blu-ray Covers Redux 2

Some more hard media video cover makeovers. See the first DVD Redux post for more on these...
Note: Technically, the Faster, Pussycat! cover isn't a "redux" as I recorded this off the tee-vee and made the cover from scratch.

CD Covers Redux 2: Soundtracks

See CD Covers Redux 1 for more information on this project and its ilk!

One-Sheet Redux

Pictured below are the flyer and most of my entrants in One-Sheet Redux, a show of reimagined movie posters that took place at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ in 2011.

DVD / Blu-ray Covers Redux 1: Horror / Sci-Fi

I've remade covers for practically every DVD and Blu-ray on my shelves. The reasons for this are twofold: First, most of them are butt-ugly, designed to belie any period esthetic and appeal to the lowest common denominator consumer. Secondly, they often lack what I consider important information on the content in favor of hyperbolic blurbs, shitty Photoshopped graphics, and (particularly on Blu-rays these days) a preponderance of technical specs for all the different delivery methods on the movie or TV show within.

Secondly, home video packaging is unnecessarily bulky. TV box sets particularly are ten times bigger than they need to be (see elsewhere), but even regular DVDs do not need to be a full quarter of an inch thick. My remakes are all packaged in slimline cases, taking up half the shelf space and looking much cleaner than commercial DVD / Blu-ray releases. My main exception to this rule: Criterion Collections. I do not tough those. They are sacrosanct.

For my covers, I almost always use one of the original one-sheet posters. On Blu-rays, which are not proportional to the posters, I usually have to truncate the art, which kills me. I've started using DVD cases for Blu-rays to facilitate better usage of the original art. For the back covers, most of the time, I will simply scan the back cover of the commercial disc and use that. These four cover redux feature new back covers designed by myself as well.

I'm posting my Video Redux Covers by genre, starting with a handful of horror and sci-fi movies. As with my CD designs, I'm posting the art untrimmed, with visible crop marks.

MTV.com Illustrations

Below are a handful of illustrations I did for mtv.com in the mid-2000s, most of them for a column entitled, "Music Geek," for which I also wrote a few installments.
